The Story Map Cascade℠ app lets you combine narrative text with maps, images, and multimedia content in an engaging, full-screen scrolling experience. In a Cascade story, sections containing text and in-line media can be interspersed with "immersive" sections that fill the screen with your maps, 3D scenes, images, and videos. Cascade is ideal for making compelling, in-depth stories that are very easy for people to navigate.
The Story Map Cascade format presents a linear narrative with supporting content. Depending on how you want to tell your story, the maps or 3D scenes you include can be static, automated in a specific sequence, or freely interactive for your audience to explore. Browse our gallery to see how storytellers are designing immersive sections in their Story Map Cascade stories.
Your story is automatically hosted on ArcGIS Online.
Story Map apps are open source, so you have the option to host an app on your own web server. For example, you may want to give your story a custom URL, or make styling changes beyond what is possible with our authoring tools. If you're a developer, you can get the source code on GitHub to do more advanced customization. See the introduction below for step-by-step instructions, and visit our Developers’ Corner for customization tips and ideas.
