Life Above Everything
A Lucian Freud exhibition
The Keller Family Venture Grant allowed me to travel to Dublin Ireland in order to see a once and a life time exhibition of Lucian Freud and Jack Yeats. Lucian Freud is the subject of my senior art history thesis, so it was truly amazing to get to study his work in person.

This a picture of the front of the Irish Museum of Modern Art. It was originally used as a retirement facility for veterans of the Irish military. It is a massive square with a court yard in the middle. To view exhibitions you circumnavigate the second floor, which is a truly unique style of gallery.
The three images above are of just a view works of Freud's that were on display. This show was able to include several works that are owned by private collections so they are not normally on display. It also captured a range of Freud's work, making his development and progress extremely evident.
Unfortunately the guards were extremely active when it came to preventing pictures from being taken, but I was able to sneak this picture of an abandoned work of Freud's. I felt particularly lucky to get to see this piece, not only because Freud was known to destroy the works he wasn't pleased with, but also because this work gave great insight into his painting process.
