INTRODUCTION
Despite the renown of many amazing things we hear about Los Angles, the city of Los Angeles and California as a whole state has encountered and struggled with numerous sizes and levels of issues and problems. Some of the most commonly seen yet ongoing problems include homelessness, racial discrimination, crimes and gangs, unemployment, and the list goes on. The primary aim of this project is to investigate the crime incidents happening in Los Angeles, California. Some of the fundamental questions I attempt to answer in this investigation include who the most vulnerable groups in the city of Los Angeles are? Where do crime incidents take place?
Knowing the insight into the crime and understanding when and where crime incidents occur can be helpful for the authoritative personnel to find the best fit solution to fight crime and gangs and improve safety in the neighborhood.

Demography of Los Angeles
Los Angeles is one of the most diverse cities in the US and the world regarding race, social-economic status, national origin, languages, etc. The diversity index of Los Angeles is 87. The index ranges from 0 to 100 where zero (0) is no diversity and 100 means high diversity. Los Angeles has a population of nearly 4 million people living across Los Angeles county in 2019. Of the 4 million population, the 5 largest ethnic groups in Los Angeles, CA are White (Non-Hispanic) (28.7%), White (Hispanic) (23.4%), Other (Hispanic) (22.3%), Asian (Non-Hispanic) (11.5%), and Black or African American (Non-Hispanic) (8.32%). 59.1% of the households in Los Angeles, CA speak a non-English language at home as their primary language.
37 % received undergrad/ grad degrees, 19% received high school diplomas, 23% received some type of college degree, and 21% of the population with no high school diploma to be qualified for employment. However, due to a large percentage of 37% population with grad degrees, the biggest labor force by occupation is white-collars, taking up 62%, 20 % is blue-collar workers, and 16% working in the services industry.

Understanding the household income of Los Angeles
The median age of Los Angeles residents is 35.9 years old and the median household income of $ 67,418. Between 2017 and 2021, the population of Los Angeles has declined from 3.99 M to 3. 94M, a decrease of -0.2%. However, the median income grew from $62,474 to $67,012, a 8% increase.

This map shows that the most Covid vulnerable area is not concentrated in one particular area. Instead, it spreads out across the states.
This map clearly shows that the most concentrated area of poverty and unemployment is the middle of Los Angeles. The map shows that there is a relationship between unemployment and poverty. This is also an area where people earn below-average annual income.

poverty is heavily caused by unemployment. The steeper the blue line, the stronger is the relationship between the two attributes.
CRIME INSIGHT
The graph below shows the top most common crime incidents by category in Los Angles. I expected shoplifting and vandalism to be contenders, but I was surprised that assault and vehicles took the lead.

The visualization graph below shows that 77th Street is the significant hotspot of crime incidents. It also shows that the ethnicity of crime victims is African-American, followed by Hispanic, Asian and White(Non-Hispanic). The map on the next slide shows 77th Street situates in the centre of Los Angeles where vulnerable populations live and earn less than the annual median income.
The graph on the left shows that crime incidents were increasing in 2015 and 2016, and they dropped in 2017. This data was up to date as of September 2017 which explains why there was significantly less crime in 2017.

The map above shows the hotspot of crime incidents happens. Overall, it shows that crime incidents mostly happens happen in the center of Los Angeles where it's most vulnerable area of the city and where people earn less than the median household income.
