Lomanagh Loop Walk
LIVE is a collaboration between Welsh and Irish community organisations, academic departments and local governments on the Iveragh Peninsula (south-west Ireland) and Llŷn Peninsula (north-west Wales). The aim of LIVE is to enable coastal communities to promote their natural and cultural assets and create opportunities for sustainable tourism, especially outside of the traditional peak tourist seasons. We will build on work already underway to create a strong identity and sense of place for both peninsulas. Find out more about the project here: www.ecomuseumlive.eu .
A little bit about the area
Our map does not correspond to exact points or numbered signs. Instead, this map is seen as a companion for the area, filling you with information on what you might find and where you might find it. It will hopefully add to the enjoyment you gain from this wonderful corner of Iveragh and help build the memories that will stay with you long after you leave.
The white line follows the Lomanagh Loop - a 10km hiking trail following red way-markers which can take around 3.5 hours to complete. The loop follows a mix of tarred roads, forestry roads and a section through sheep-grazed farmland - some of which can be boggy underfoot. No dogs are permitted on this trail. We recommend sturdy hiking boots and rain gear. There are a number of additional loops and trails around Iveragh - which are accessible due to the generous permission of landowners. You can find out more via the South Kerry Development Partnership page - South Kerry Trails .
The Lomanagh walk starts/ends in Sneem - a beautiful little town that is often overlooked by visitors to Iveragh. Divided by the River Sneem, surrounded by spectacular landscapes and sprinkled with outdoor gems such as the Garden of the Senses, there is so much to see and do in the area. Sneem.ie will give you lots of ideas on where to eat/stay in the area while the local community newsletter is the perfect place to find out about upcoming events and the many eco-friendly community driven initiatives.
The Fermoyle Loop walk begins in the same area but follows a different route into the hills. We have compiled a similar map for that trail - with a focus on the incredible geology of the region. You can explore the Fermoyle Map here .
We want to share our beautiful corner of the world with you and with many generations to come.
