Overview

The North Complex fire began on August 18, 2020 and has burned nearly 319,000 acres in Butte and Plumas counties and was contained December 3, 2020. Much of the damage, and most of the destroyed residences, are in Butte County.

California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) started Phase I work and handed off cleanup operations to U.S. EPA on October 30, 2020. EPA completed the household hazardous waste cleanup on December 12, 2020.
