A Grinnell alumna and former soccer teammate (far right) at the Mariposa Foundation reached out to me because the foundation wanted more Grinnellians! Here I am with her and two other Grinnell interns.

I loved all the connections I made working with young people in the Dominican Republic. My students and I did a lot of fun things together.

For example, I taught swimming lessons to the girls.

13 young girls and women, all different heights, in swimming suits, caps, and towels.

I taught them some English in the afternoon.

I also helped them boogie board on the beach!

The Mariposa Foundation strives to get young girls out of generational poverty through education and work experiences. I loved how the foundation stood for something I believed in.

The foundation had a farewell ceremony for us interns.
