The Freedom Drive corridor extends west
from W Morehead neighborhood to I-85.
It partially overlaps with the historic area
of Charlotte. This means that many of the
neighborhoods were heavily impacted by
urban renewal. Many of the neighborhoods
were classified as declining or hazardous,
displacing the residents, most of whom
were African American. There are 4
historic neighborhoods within the area of
influence: Biddleville, Seversville, Wesley
Heights, and Greenville. There are 3 historic
neighborhoods located directly within the
corridor: Camp Greene, Ashley Park, and
Wesley Heights.

This one deals with an explosive come back along Freedom Drive in West Charlotte. Businesses pulled out in recent years, and individuals gave up. However, it appears that Freedom Drive is becoming a re-polished jewel in the Queen City’s crown.
This highly traveled two mile stretch between Morehead Street and I-85 demonstrates the reality of changing fortunes. The new modern-day renaissance along West Charlotte’s Freedom Drive is fueled in part by restaurants and residential demand.

6 must-try eateries on Freedom Drive
This is where the super down-to-earth VP of your company is sneaking off to for a quiet lunch every day. We all know about Pinky’s and Rhino Market , but drive another mile down Freedom and you’ll find a bunch of small businesses with classic eats. It’s perfect for when you need to get away from the Uptown restaurant crowd.
Why it’s awesome: If you love old school neighborhood restaurants, Gardenia for you. It’s been open 28 years, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the menu is full of comfort foods I guarantee you haven’t had this good in years.
