QGIS : An open-source GIS option

There are many cases where you might want to use an open-source platform instead of one of the ArcGIS tools.

QGIS is widely used in academia by researchers who may prefer an open source solution, can't afford ArcGIS, or who want something that runs natively in a Mac environment, for example.

  • Using a Mac?  Download  here and install
  • Using Windows?  Download  and install (current long term release (most stable) version 3.16)

Unlike the ArcGIS projects, many types of analysis and data work QGIS are handled by separate plugins that will need to be individually installed.
