HDxCC Project Dashboard

Connecting emergency managers and students through applied, local emergency management, and disaster resilience projects

What is the HDxCC Project Dashboard?

Local resources are scarce and college students need hands-on experience, especially in the emergency management and homeland security profession to improve their job prospects.

The goal of the Hazards and Disasters xChange Collaboratory (HDxCC) Project Dashboard is to:

  • connect emergency managers and other community stakeholders with faculty and students to implement community projects through in-class projects, virtual internships, guided studies, capstone projects, thesis work, and similar;
  • immerse graduate and/or undergraduate students in community projects that allow students to apply their emergency management core competencies acquired during their academic studies into work-ready skills; and
  • create mutually beneficial, long-term partnerships between state, local, and non-profit organizations operating in the risk reduction, disaster recovery, emergency management or homeland security arena with higher education students and faculty.

How to get started

Practitioner: Need an intern, student volunteer, or research partnership? Post your project via an electronic survey by navigating to "Submit a Project" in the main menu (top of the page). Your project will be shown instantly on the projects dashboard. You may also contact a researcher directly to pitch your idea by navigating to "Find a Researcher".

Student: Looking for an internship, capstone project, or similar? Peruse the project listings by navigating to "Find a Project" (main menu, top of the page). You can filter projects by study area, state, FEMA Region, and more. Once you have identified a project of interest, please contact the person listed as point of contact directly. Please note that the HDxCC does not follow up on the status of a submitted project and that the actual project status may differ from what is posted on this website.

Researcher: Available to conduct applied research? Make sure to include your expertise and contact information either in the Social Science Extreme Events Research (SSEER) network for social scientists or the non-social scientist network below. Your information will be instantly displayed on the researchers dashboard.

The Project Dashboard does not list all EM/HS organizations in the US. Only those organizations are listed and mapped which have submitted project proposals via this website.

Find a Project

This dashboard shows project (ideas) submitted by local agencies and serves as a bridge connecting students with applied projects during their undergraduate or graduate studies. The dashboard includes a searchable list (and map) to find local projects.

Once you identify a project, please reach out to the contact information associated with the project. [Place holder projects included for visualization purposes only.]

You may expand the dashboard by clicking on the "Open live content in a new tab" icon (top right, square with arrow). Please see the Instructions section within the dashboard for insights on how to filter projects and navigate the map.

Project Submission

Step 1: Submit your project (idea) via the online survey form. The submission form requires only minimal information. Click on the yellow button below to open the submission form.

Please note that when you complete the project intake survey you agree to have your information included in the public listing and mapping effort of the HDxCC platform.

Step 2: Once you have submitted your project information, the dashboard below will instantly populate and list your project in the right-most panel and show the project location on the map.

Step 3: Alternatively, you may pitch your project directly to a researcher. To find a researcher navigate to the "Find a Researcher" dashboard. If you are interested in a more regular working relationship (e.g., internships, etc.) with your local college, we highly recommend to reach out directly to a researcher listed on the dashboard.

Step 4: To change a project's status to completed or remove a listing from the dashboard, please email cemhs@asu.edu (subject HDxCC Project Dashboard).

Build a Partnership with Researchers near you

Use the search functionality to find researchers based on their disciplinary background, university home, and home.

[Place holder non-social science researchers included for visualization purposes only.]

This is not a comprehensive directory of disaster researchers. Only researchers who have submitted their information via SSEER or Step 3 (non-social scientist) are included.

Join a Researcher Network

Step 1: Verify if you are already on the map.

Step 2: No, and I am a social scientist. Submit your contact and specialty information to the SSEER network. Click  HERE .

About SSEER. The Social Science Extreme Events Research network—SSEER—is a National Science Foundation-supported network and online platform for social science hazards and disaster researchers. The mission of SSEER is to identify social science researchers and help them build connections—to one another, to interdisciplinary teams, and to communities affected by disaster and disaster risk. SSEER is designed to amplify and advance social science hazards and disaster research.

SSEER is headquartered at the CONVERGE facility at the Natural Hazards Center at the University of Colorado Boulder. For more information about SSEER, please contact Principal Investigator Lori Peek at  lori.peek@colorado.edu  or visit the SSEER website at:  https://converge.colorado.edu/research-networks/sseer .

Who should join SSEER? Social and behavioral scientists from around the world who study hazards and disasters are invited to join SSEER. This includes academic researchers, students, and applied and professional researchers in independent, government, industry, and not-for-profit sectors. Please note that SSEER data are publicly accessible via this website, ArcGIS Online, and more.

Step 3: No, and I am not a social scientist. Please submit your information by clicking on the yellow button below. Your information is only collected for the purpose of the project exchange dashboard and is not part of a larger effort. Please note that once you submit your information, it will be publicly accessible via this website and ArcGIS Online.
