The relationship between overgrazing and the US environment.

What is the relationship between overgrazing and the American environment?

Introduction

Among the environmental problems facing today, global warming is often the primary environmental problem. Animal husbandry is an indispensable industry in human activities. Since ancient times, humans have mastered the skills of breeding animals and gradually developed this skill. However, in recent years, overgrazing has occurred around the world and has directly or indirectly caused some environmental problems.

Research questions

What environmental changes will result from overgrazing?

Does overgrazing affect land quality?

How should we control overgrazing?

I researched the environmental impact of overgrazing in the United States and how and how it impacted it.

How does my topic relate to the course?

Serious overgrazing has occurred in some states in the western United States.

As we all know, the environment is closely related to our lives. Changes in the environment are likely to directly or indirectly change or affect our lives. Therefore, we need to understand what caused the changes in the environment and how we should control the deterioration of the environment.

  • What environmental changes will result from overgrazing?

Antarctica has recorded numerous glaciers

The most direct impact of overgrazing on the environment is that animals emit large amounts of greenhouse gases and cause global warming. And transitional grazing will directly lead to desertification of the land.

"The expansion of livestock herds is responsible for much of the clearing of forests and overgrazing can result in poor soil, erosion and eventually desertification (2017)". The news comes from an article written by the author. The author believes that the main cause of overgrazing is excessive tree felling. This passage tells us one of the reasons for overgrazing.

Global warming is one of the most severe climate changes caused by overgrazing. Too much carbon dioxide causes the atmosphere to accumulate too much heat and eventually warm the climate. Part of the cause of global warming is human emissions and the other is livestock emissions.

"Globally, the sector contributes 18 percent (7.1 billion tons CO2 equivalent) of global greenhouse gas emissions (2017)". The news comes from an article written by the author. The author believes that overgrazing produces a large amount of carbon dioxide, which is the cause of global warming. This passage tells us the relationship between global warming and overgrazing.

Therefore, transitional grazing will lead to soil erosion, land desertification and global warming.

Global Warming

  • Does overgrazing affect land quality?

Overgrazing affects land quality, which means that the land becomes unusable, which is fatal to the country and the planet.

"Land degradation is a process that happens when no protective measures to address soil erosion are taken. The top layer of soil contains the highest amount of nutrients and when this layer and the nutrients are removed, it is very difficult to recover the soil quality(2019)". The news comes from an article written by the author. The author believes that overgrazing will cause soil nutrient loss, and the land will not have sufficient nutrients to support the growth of the next plant. This information indicates that overgrazing will directly affect the quality of the entire land and prevent plant growth.

The nutrients of the land are taken away, and crops planted on this land afterwards will not survive because of no nutrients. This will lead to reduced crop yields and directly lead to land desertification.

"Loss of the topsoil also makes it very difficult or nearly impossible for native plants to start to grow again. If the land degradation process continues, it eventually leads to desertification (2019)".The news comes from an article written by the author. The author believes that overgrazing will make it difficult for plants to grow again, which will lead to desertification of the land. This sentence shows us that if the consequences of laissez-faire grazing are, it is land desertification.

Therefore, overgrazing can affect land quality and lead to desertification.

  • How should we control overgrazing?

To control overgrazing, we must understand the reasons for overgrazing. The main cause of overgrazing is insufficient pasture, and farmers have to place their livestock in pastures. Therefore, one way to control overgrazing is to increase pasture production.

"During overgrazing, animals reduce plant leaf areas, decreasing plants' ability to intercept sunlight and grow new leaf material. This reduction in turn slows down plant regrowth, drains energy reserves, and if left unchecked, can lead to eventual plant death. Weakened root systems decrease soil stability and plants become more susceptible to drought and weed pressure (n.d.)". The news comes from an article written by the author. The authors believe that overgrazing will affect the plant's ability to grow. This explains that the excessive side has no impact on the land and subsequent changes in the plant growth environment.

Some areas of the western United States begin to reduce overgrazing by improving forage quality

The first step in this regard is to improve the quality of forages. We can use high-quality forage seeds to improve the quality of the forage, and allow enough time to revitalize the land. Secondly, we must control the supply of forage to livestock. Excessive supply of forage will waste the reserve of forage and make forage shortage at critical moments. Therefore, to control overgrazing, we must improve the quality and quantity of pasture.

Conclusion

By completing this study, I realized that the effects of overgrazing on the US environment are mainly soil erosion and global warming. This is closely related to the knowledge about global warming that I learned in class. This research made me realize one of the ways in which global warming is formed and another way to mitigate global warming. For the wider western world, I think that the western world can reduce the pressure caused by overgrazing by improving quality. The benefits of high-quality animal husbandry are far greater than those of low-quality animal husbandry.
