City Council Meeting - December 17th, 2024
The George Izay Park 3D renderings and architectural analysis will be presented to City Council on Tuesday, December 17th, 2024 at Council Chambers, time to be announced. During this presentation, floor plans, renderings, and a 3D video will be presented detailing proposed improvements for the Burbank Little Theater and the Olive Recreation Center.

Project Description

George Izay Park Public Engagement
The City of Burbank Parks and Recreation Department in collaboration with RJM Design Group is conducting public engagement and outreach to help identify and determine the needs of Burbank residents and stakeholders regarding future improvements to George Izay Park and its amenities, facilities and buildings. Information gathered during this process will guide the ultimate vision and development of a Park Master Plan.

Project Timeline
The George Izay Park Public Engagement process is anticipated to be complete by August of 2022. The project includes a number of public outreach opportunities, conceptual master plan development, and final report findings and presentation to the City Parks and Recreation Board and City Council. The Conceptual Park Master Plan and Report are expected to be presented to Park and Recreation Board on August 11, 2022 and City Council in September, 2022. The City of Burbank operates 27 parks, several recreation centers, cultural and art entertainment venues, 2 public pools, 2 adult centers, 1 nature center, 1 golf course, tennis courts, open space, hiking trails, and other recreational amenities such as: a skate / BMX bike park, pickleball courts, bocce ball court, and a roller / ball facility. George Izay Park has many park and recreation facilities and amenities, including; the Burbank Walk of Fame, 3 parking lots. 4 baseball fields, batting cages, a concessionaires space, 4 handball courts, 1 horseshoe pit, 12 picnic tables, 1 playgrounds (2 play structures for ages 2-12), 2 outdoor restroom buildings, 2 tennis/pickleball courts, the Joslyn Adult Center (congregate meal hall, recreation rooms), Olive Recreation Center (gym, classrooms, Sports Office), the Burbank Little Theater, the Betsy Lueke Creative Arts Center (gallery, classroom and pottery studio), and the historical Lockheed F-104 Starfighter Jet.

Community Input
Critical to the development of any project is coordination and information sharing within the community. Throughout the Public Engagement and Outreach Process, City Staff and RJM will be collecting input via Virtual Online Surveys, Workshops, a Multi-Modal Survey, and Stakeholder Interviews. Project Updates
Master Plan
The City of Burbank Parks and Recreation Department in collaboration with RJM Design Group conducted public engagement and in-person outreach to help identify and determine the needs of the Burbank residents and stakeholders regarding future improvements to George Izay Park and its amenities, facilities, and buildings. Information gathered during this process has guided the ultimate vision and development of the George Izay Park Master Plan.
The Master Plan and public engagement processes was presented to Park Board on Thursday, August 11th, 2022 at the Council Chambers from 6:00pm-8:00pm. View some of the exhibits from the Master Plan Report below. The full report can also be viewed here .
Based on recent feedback recieved prior to and after the Park Board presentation regarding master plan nomenclature, "turf" refers to natural grass. There are no plans or recommendations for use of artificial turf.
