COVID-19 Pandemic Whanganui Iwi Marae Relief Fund

FINAL REPORTING

Powered by Esri

Ngā Marae o Whanganui

BACKGROUND

The purpose of this one-off fund was to release individual marae financial tension that COVID-19 created and organise resources that brought immediate and long-term relief. The Covid-19 Pandemic Marae Relief Fund provided a one-off payment per Marae to the value of $10,000.

This fund was in recognition of the extraordinary circumstances and financial pressures caused by Covid19. Many Marae remained closed and awaited further instruction from the Government in relation to Alert Levels and restrictions on public access throughout 2020. Most had not had any financial income for the previous three months and yet still have fixed costs they are required to pay. The added cashflow provided Marae the support for ongoing operational costs that help run and occupy the Marae included, but not limited to power, rates, water, maintenance, and any other additional costs. Where practicable the payment also supported any costs associated with Marae preparedness to resume public access.

It is important to note that the reorganization of resources included the reprioritisation of funds that would have been allocated to the TMOTA Marae Capacity Fund 2020/2021 financial year allocation. Therefore, no additional allocation was available over and above this one-off fund for that year.

APPLICATION

In order to lower the administrative load for our marae volunteers, it as agreed that we would only require a letter stating what the aspirations of the marae are and what the intended to spend the funds on. It was also agreed that a survey be completed as a final report.

SURVEY

The survey is still live, so please right click on the link to open:  https://arcg.is/0SW5zi
