Walker Lake
Featuring some of the most dramatic sunsets and sunrises in Nevada, Walker Lake provides one of the most intriguing and dynamic landscapes in the western United States. While continuing to provide recreational and economic vitality to the area, significant decreases in water flow from the Walker River has resulted in the lake no longer supporting a fishery or several past recreational activities that brought people and economic benefit to the area.

Hawthorne
America’s most patriotic city, Hawthorne sits on the south end of Walker Lake and near the base of the stunning Mt. Grant. Be sure to stop in the Hawthorne Ordinance Museum for a robust military history of the area, enjoy lunch at one of the communities many friendly restaurants, or learn more about the dynamic and compelling history of the region at the Mineral County Museum .

Walker River State Recreation Area
Fishing, camping, birding, hiking, and kayaking are just some of the ways to enjoy this beautiful area. Spanning four ranches acquired and transferred to the state of Nevada by the Walker Basin Conservancy, the result will open over 29 miles of the Walker River to the public.

Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area
This area provides upland wildlife habitat in perpetuity, as well as public access for hunting, fishing, and general recreation.

Wilson Canyon Trail
Featuring stunning landscape, a raging river, and some of the most expansive views in the area, Wilson Canyon is highly regarded local hiking trail.

Yerington
Home to the Walker Basin Conservancy field office, Yerington is a dynamic town with ongoing community events and easy outdoor access. Visit the Lyon County Museum, stroll the shops downtown, or make the short drive to Pitchfork Ranch at the Walker State Recreation Area. As a proud member of the Yerington Chamber of Commerce, the Conservancy continues to work with businesses and other organizations to promote this community many on our team call home.

Topaz Lake
With quality fishing, a landscape to explore, and with the West Walker River flowing out, Topaz Reservoir has entertainment for all those who enjoy the outdoors. Bird watching and fishing are frequent activities at the reservoir which sits right near the Nevada and California boarders.

Green Lake & Trailhead
Set among jagged peaks and alpine lakes, this location also features a campground.

Virginia Lakes Trailhead
Still in the Walker Basin but just north of Mono Lake, the towering mountains invite recreationists to Virginia Lakes and the surrounding area.

Rosaschi (Fishing)
Here you’ll find a well-known local fishing spot along the East Walker River.

Fletcher Historic Site
History buffs and ghost town enthusiasts will enjoy a stop at this classic transportation location.

Bridgeport Reservoir
Home to a wonderful community featuring great views, and endless outdoor opportunities from hiking and backcountry skiing to hot springs, Bridgeport and the Bridgeport Reservoir are a must visit. The reservoir and the East Walker River that flows out of it provide prized fishing for area residents and visitors alike.

Matterhorn Peak
The highest peak in the Sawtooth Ridge, Matterhorn Peak is a destination for the experienced Alpinist while still manageable for summer day hikes.

Twin Lakes
Snow covered mountains and clear, mountain water highlight this location just outside of Bridgeport.

The Elbow
Part of the Walker River State Recreation Area, this scenic area provides quality fishing and a campground.
