14/08 - Fire Danger

Fire danger from Very High to Extreme Danger within the area of Arafo and Candelaria municipalities according to the  Fire Danger Forecast  ( EFFIS )

15/08 (22:35) - Event description

On the evening of the 15 August 2023, a forest fire started on the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands). It mainly affects the municipalities of Arafo and Candelaria with the risk of it spreading to other municipalities. This area has an important natural value as it affects the Siete Lomas Protected Landscape, Corona Forestal Natural Park and could affect the Teide National Park, where there is a high number of endemic species.

16/08 (12:54) - Activation start

On the 16 August 2023 at 12:38 UTC, the Direccion General de Seguridad y Emergencias, Gobierno de Canarias, triggered Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping service to cover the fire event affecting the Arafo and Candaleria municipalities on the island of Tenerife. Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping was requested to provide fire extent and damage assessment emergency mapping.

19/08 (03:40) - First production Delineation Delivery

Analysis of a Sentinel-2 10 m / 5 874.1 ha burned, ~80 potentially affected population.

22/08 (17:29) - Delineation Monitoring 01 Product - Delivery

Analysis of a GeoEye image 8.0 m / 9 572.2 ha burned, ~750 potentially affected population. This is a consolidation of the previous version delivered during the night based on the analysis of a further acquisition acquired on 21/08/2023.

25/08 (00:41) - Delineation Monitoring 02 Product - Delivery

Analysis of WorldView-3 image 2.0 m / 10 957.1 ha burned, ~850 potentially affected population.

26/08 - Grading Product - Delivery

Analysis of GeoEye image 2.0 m / 12 273.9 ha burned, ~850 potentially affected population.

29/08 - Activation closure

No additional products planned - Summary of delivered products: 3 DEL and 3 GRA.
