Human Impacts on the Ocean

Human activities are negatively affecting the marine life through overfishing, ocean pollution, and oil development.

Overfishing is an issue that rarely gets attention but it does leave an impact to the ocean. Many people rely on fish in their daily diets and others make a living catching, selling, buying fish. This problem can lead to a decline in wildlife, degraded ecosystems, and an unsustainable food source.

Ocean pollution has been an issue for awhile now but it has only gotten worse as time goes on. Garbage dumped in the ocean can release toxic chemicals throughout the water, snag and tear corals, and harm animals if they ingest pieces of plastic or become entangled in the debris.

Oil development causes disruption of pathways, degradation of important animal habitats, and oil spill. This can lead to devastating consequences to the animals and humans who depend on the ocean ecosystems.
