Be more like Frenchy
From racing to roaching: the extraordinary life of Frenchy, the greyhound.
Hey mate!
This is my best side.
My name is Frenchy (aka France Soir; please say it with a 🇫🇷 accent).
I’m an English greyhound, former racer, born in 🇦🇺 and currently living a golden retirement in 🇵🇹.
My human ( Cristina ) has written this ❤️ letter to me in the form of a story map (what a nerd, right? 👩🏻💻).
Early days (2013-2015)
I was born on 16 November 2013. My sire (father) is Magic Sprite (b. 23 March 2008), my dam (mother) is Magic Capers (b. 27 May 2005), and I am one of seven siblings:
My family.
My parents and siblings were also racers. Below, their racing records so that you can see for yourself who the child star is (spoiler: that would be me) 👇
My racing career (2015-2018)
My first race was on 22 October 2015 - I was almost two years old, then.
First race, first win. That's how good I am.
My last race was on 10 February 2018 - I was four years old.
I do not miss those days.
Altogether, I participated in 56 races across four states, winning 17 of those. I was a frequent flyer and a frequent winner 🏆.

From racing to roaching* (2018-)
Once I retired, I was placed in a foster home. I was there from May 30, 2018, to July 8, 2018. My foster mom, Hannah, wrote such a glowing report about my housemate qualities that I was deemed suitable to be adopted into a forever home. Here are some of the nice (yet true) things she said about me:
Follows you around the house but will happily sleep next to you while you work.
A well rounded dog and loves company.
That's not me in the picture, obviously. I am way more charming.
Meanwhile, I passed the Green Collar assessment, stating that I did not need to be muzzled in public. #overachiever
Finding my forever home
Cristina's welcome pack for me. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail, right?
This is when my human, Cristina, comes up 🙋🏻♀️. She prepared my arrival with utmost care.
We met at Greyhounds As Pets WA (GAP) in Perth on July 16, 2018, and I have to say, it was love at first sight! I readily jumped into her car and moved in with her right away. Why play difficult?
My human tricked me - I am not a fan of photos.
We lived happily by the Indian Ocean for the next eight months.
Then, the unexpected happened: Cristina decided to move to Portugal 😱 No way was I going to be left behind! That would have broken my dog heart 💔!
Flying economy is not for me...
On 27 March 2019, the biggest (and worst) trip of my life took place. I don't like to talk about this episode of my life that much.
I was put into this huge crate (I'm a big boy) and shipped to Dubai 🛫 (an 11-hour flight ).
Not happy... there is no couch inside this thing.
Then, I stayed in Dubai for an "overnight comfort stop". Their words, not mine.
Finally, I arrived in Lisbon (after another 8 hours, 30-minute flight ) 🛬.
It was all very rough - I am a gentleman who is used to certain amenities, you see.
Life is sweet
However, I am not one to dwell on the bad things. Life kept getting better after that day 😊
High-fiving my human family.
I want to meet my fellows!
My human is currently creating a collection of greyhounds' stories . The survey below will help her collect the data needed to build a virtual home for all of us.
