These are the boundaries for eight Subareas defined by the city, only four of which are heavily populated: the Northeast, Northwest, and Southwest Residential Areas, and Old Town.
These are mostly the boundaries for elementary school attendance areas. The thick red line shows the junior/senior high school attendance boundary, which runs along Patterson Ave near the city's far east end.
The thicker boundaries are those for Census tracts, about the size of large neighborhoods. Each of these is divided into multiple Census block groups, which have the thinner boundaries.

Goleta is currently split between two supervisorial districts: the (blue) 2nd and the (green) 3rd. Most of the city is in the 2nd, but a portion of the Northwest and all of the Southwest is in the 3rd.
Goleta is currently split between two trustee areas: 2 (yellow) and 3 (orange). In general, the half of the city that is south of the 101 is in Trustee Area 2, and the half to the north is in Trustee Area 3.
Goleta is split between two sanitary districts. The (green) Goleta Sanitary District covers the eastern half of the city, and the (purple) Goleta West Sanitary District covers the western half.
Almost all of Goleta is covered by the 93117 ZIP Code Area (pink). However, a sliver of the city at its far east end lies in ZIP Code Area 93111 (purple), including everything east of Highway 217.
