Hand Carry Boat Access (Canoe/Kayak) to the James River
*Paddlers carry their boat along a section of boardwalk then launch their boat and paddle to the next section of boardwalk. Upon reaching the next boardwalk, the paddlers have to carry their boats again and then launch in a small cove along the James River. Paddlers need to plan their launch about 2 hours before or after low tide.

*From the parking lot by Henricus Visitor Center, it's a 1/4-mile portage to Sycamore Dock. Paddlers need to launch about 1.5 hours before or after low tide.
