Established in 1992, the San Bernardino International Airport Authority (SBIAA) oversees the development and reuse of the aviation portions of the former Norton Air Force Base, spanning approximately 1,300 acres, now known as the SBD International Airport.

San Bernardino International Airport (SBD) is certificated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under Part-139 as a primary non-hub, public-use, commercial service airport supporting a variety of aviation business activities and services to the public.

Passenger Service
Following the successful launch of passenger service to San Francisco and Provo, UT, Breeze Airways expanded passenger service at San Bernardino International Airport with a seasonal route to Las Vegas and Hartford, CT, in February 2023, connecting Inland Empire travelers to affordable cross-country travel.
Air Cargo
San Bernardino International Airport serves as a base for three of the largest air cargo carriers in the United States: UPS, FedEx, and Amazon Air.
Air cargo operations at SBD contribute significantly to the local economy by generating employment opportunities and supporting related industries such as logistics, warehousing, and transportation.
Business Aviation
Luxivair SBD is a premier fixed-base operator (FBO) located at San Bernardino International Airport (SBD). It's renowned for its exceptional service and luxurious amenities catering to private and corporate aviation needs.
Luxivair SBD serves a diverse clientele, including business executives, celebrities, and private individuals who value privacy, efficiency, and top-notch service in their air travel experience. Additionally, Luxivair SBD supports all airfield tenants with fueling and ground support services.
Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO)
MRO businesses at SBD accommodate the needs of SBD's growing commercial and corporate customer base. A full range of MRO services are available to ensure aircraft operate at peak performance, maintain and upgrade the attractiveness of aircraft, and assist in meeting increasingly stringent federal regulations.

2023 BY THE NUMBERS
JOB CREATION AND RETENTION
By the end of 2023, in partnership with the Inland Valley Development Agency (IVDA), a total of 18,101 new jobs were created, an increase over the prior year's 17,757 jobs, resulting in more than $4.8 billion in economic output.
The partnership continues to replace and exceed the 10,000 jobs lost due to the closure of the Norton Air Force Base.

AIRPORT INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS
Through grant funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Federal Economic Development Administration (EDA), and the Inland Valley Development Agency (IVDA), SBIAA continues to invest in airport infrastructure improvements.
Runway 6/24 Joint and Spall Repair
In May 2022, the Commission approved the award of a construction contract with Goss Construction Company, Inc. to provide for the reconstructing of expansion joints between each of the concrete panels throughout runway 6/24. The project included repair of minor concrete spalls and repainting the runway.
This project was completed in April, 2023.
Taxiway Shoulder Improvements
In May 2022, the Commission approved the award of a construction contract with Griffith Company to provide for the reconstructing of asphalt shoulders along portions of Taxiways A, A-1, D, and E and restriping associated taxiway markings in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements.
This project was completed in April, 2023.
Fuel Farm Internal Floating Roof
In May 2023, the Commission approved the award of a construction contract to Bodell Construction Company to design and build a new Aluminum Internal Floating Roof (AIFR) in order to reduce evaporative loss of Jet-A fuel, resulting in the reduction of carbon emissions from the fuel storage tank.
This project was completed in December, 2023.
Terminal Parking Lot Improvements
SBIAA Commission awarded a contract to AEC Moreno Corporation in October 2023 to address improvements at the Domestic Terminal Parking Lot. Improvements included the installation of fencing, ceramic markers, pavement signage, and construction of a path of travel in the west lot.
This project was completed in March, 2024.
The Landing by San Manuel
The Landing by San Manuel is a project located south of 3 rd Street between Victoria and Central Avenues, just north of SBD International Airport. This project continues a multi-decade partnership with San Manuel including close coordination and land exchange processes with local and Federal organizations.
The award-winning development is substantially complete and anchored by San Manuel’s tenant – Flexport.

SBIAA EDUCATIONAL ALLIANCES
The San Bernardino International Airport Authority (SBIAA) has partnered with a variety of schools, including the San Bernardino Community College District, California State University San Bernardino, Crafton Hills Community College, the Public Safety Academy, the County of San Bernardino Workforce Development Board, FAA and pilot outreach initiatives.
San Bernardino Regional Emergency Training Center (SBRETC)
The San Bernardino Regional Emergency Training Center (SBRETC) is the only facility in the Western United States that provides live airport firefighter training as required by the FAA. With intensive training and specialized facilities, the training center meets the demanding curriculum required by the FAA for Aircraft and Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) personnel at commercial airports throughout the nation and the world.
UAS Center at SBD
The UAS Center at SBD serves as a hub for the advancement, commercialization, and adoption of autonomous technology in the US and globally.
UAS Center offers drone pilot training, consulting on drone policy, standardization and integration, including product evaluation.
The Center’s clients include leading government agencies, drone manufacturers, software providers, research institutions, and partners with public and private sectors to regional workforce development initiatives.
PUBLIC SAFETY AT SBD
USDA - U.S. FOREST SERVICE AIRTANKER BASE
SBD is home to one of the nation's largest United States Forest Service (USFS) aerial tanker bases. Pilots and crews operate specialized aircraft from SBD to support fire crews throughout Southern California during wildfire events.
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY SHERIFF AVIATION UNIT
San Bernardino County Sheriff, Aviation Unit operates a fleet of helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft from its base at SBD. As the largest county in the contiguous United States, San Bernardino County has many remote areas including mountainous terrain and desert areas that can be dangerous to navigate, or difficult to access during emergencies.
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT AIRCRAFT RESCUE AND FIREFIGHTING (ARFF)
ARFF services, provided by the San Bernardino County Protection Fire District, are crucial for responding to emergencies involving aircraft. ARFF teams are specially trained and equipped to handle the unique challenges and risks associated with aircraft emergencies, making them an essential part of airport safety and emergency response protocols.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
SBD Good Neighbor Program
The award-winning SBD Good Neighbor Program is an outreach program that allows the airport to understand, educate, and improve its community.
This program informs residents of operational changes at the airport and how those changes will benefit the entire community. It will also provides two-way communication channels: as the airport shares information, community members can provide positive and constructive feedback.
This effort is designed to hear and address local concerns and highlight the airport’s efforts to bring jobs, goods, and prosperity to the region.
This program will ensure SBD International Airport remains a good neighbor by committing to a continuous dialogue, sharing up-to-date information, and increasing opportunities for well-paying careers.
Meet Norton
Norton is a wildlife management dog specially trained to keep San Bernardino International Airport safe by reducing the risk of wildlife-related incidents without harming the natural habitat.
