1m. DTM from @DefraGovUK details highways, levees etc. 30m. DEM intersected with varying sea level rise elevations derived from @OrdnanceSurvey OpenData. Fortuitous break in DTM helps align some current and past infrastructure from DEFRA MAGIC

Day 12: no GIS

Day 14: Climate Change
Shrinking Arctic Sea Ice: Are Arctic Sea Routes opening up? While there are lots of excellent animations etc. out there, ice shrank enough that a static map shows old extents peeking out underneath new extents (same goes for winter maxima).

Day 16: Islands
Small island in small lake in large island in large lake (purple, ~ 10 mi. wide), Kitikmeot, central Victoria Island, Nunavut, Canada

Day 17: Historic map
Sea voyages of de la Perouse and Capt. Cook from CLIWOC (tall ships captains logs 1755-1855) on Rumsey 1790 in Spilhaus projection. Cook "missed" Botany Bay & Hawaii due to data issues & de la Perouse disappeared just offshore Oz for real.

Day 19: NULL
Surprising amount (4%) of zero wind speed readings in tall ships...

Land classification, field-to-market routing model, SE-most Kazakhstan, AGI/USGS Global GIS 2003 (DVD c/w runtime ArcView 3.2.1 #nostalgia).

Day 21: Water
Cambridge UK under 12 m. sea level rise, est. in over 100 yrs. if climate change left unabated. Magdalene Bridge at bottom, where the Roman Road originally crossed the River Cam to become the Cam Estuary. Castle Hill at top original Iron Age fort

Day 23: Borders
How many enclaves and exclaves can you see? Cooch Behar area of India / Bangla Desh border near Bhutan. #gischat couldn't find a detailed map online, did you? Definitions here https://arcg.is/1yf9Xf

Day 24 - Elevation
Olympus Mons, at almost 3 mi. elev. the highest mountain on Mars and the Solar System, very large shield volcano necessitated 5x exaggeration to show, fabu data at 5 m. pixel resolution... 38M mi. away @ close approach early Oct.!

@stevefaeembra made me do it! Here's Valles Marineris, East end looking West with phenomenal topography and either aeolian or sedimentary outwash features implying formerly present water or similar hydraulic regime...

+ no this isn't coastal Antarctic ice floes in foreground and incised valleys blanketed in ice in the background, but a side valley N of Valles Marineris also its E end, with incised valleys blanketed in aeolian sand, same wind cleared valley floor 2 show more sedimentary structures

Day 26: Made new tech
After learning planetary mapmaking 2 days ago, now I learn Excel 3D maps inspired by a friend who helped me on same. This shows where I've travelled / lived and how much I liked it... best part is that both exercises took ~ 1 hr. to stand up!

Day 27: Big or small data
Are 1/2M points big data today? Certainly was 15 yrs. ago testing then-new File Geodatabase. Original 1/4M points ballooned to link weather & lookup languages, details linked in pic, incl. lack of Portuguese despite their significance...
