Navigating to Your Application

Start Your Application

On the Gilder Lehrman website on the Applying and Enrolling MA program page, click the "Start Your Application" button.

Gilder Lehrman Form

This takes you to a brief form that initiates your application on the Gilder Lehrman side of the application process.

Submitting the Form

When ready, click the blue button at the bottom of the page.

Gettysburg College Application Portal

Having submitted the Gilder Lehrman form, you will be taken to the Gettysburg application portal.

New Users

If you have not started your application yet, click "Create an account" under "First-time users."

Once you create your account, you will receive a link* via email to access your application in the future.

 *If you do not receive this link, email  onlinecourses@gilderlehrman.org . 

Returning Users

If you have started your application already, click "Log in" under "Returning users."

Resume Your Application

Once you have signed in, you will be able to access your in-progress application.

To resume where you left off, click the application that you have started.

Filling Out Your Application

Instructions

When you return to your application, you will land on the instructions page.

Navigation

You will also see a navigation menu on the left side of the page.

When you are ready, click "Continue" at the bottom of the page.

Personal Background

In the first section of the application, enter your personal information.

Email: As you make your way through this section, you will reach a section for email.

Your email address has been prefilled based on the one you provided when creating your account. This is perfectly normal.

Eventually you will reach the end of the "Personal Information."

Click "Continue" when you are ready to advance to the next section.

Program Information

This section asks you when you want to start and how you want to enroll.

Degree?

In the "Degree" field, you will have two options:

"Master's": If you want to enter the program as a degree-seeking student.

"Non Degree": If you want to enter as a non-matriculated student.

Term: Choose the semester you want to start.

Summer Term: If you selected the summer term, you can either begin in session 1 or session 2.

Additional Information

This brief section has a few general questions.

Military Affiliation: If you answer "Yes" to whether you or your family have a military affiliation, some additional questions will appear.

Previous Education

Enter all institutions that you have attended for undergraduate and graduate credits.

This is the place to upload PDFs of unofficial* transcripts for all degree-granting institutions that you have attended.

*When you are admitted to the program, you will be required to send official transcripts from degree-granting institutions upon acceptance into the program.

For each institution that you add, be sure to click "Save" when you have entered all of the information and uploaded your unofficial transcript.

When you are done entering all of your institutions, click "Continue."

English Language

For applicants who did not check the box for "Yes, English is the primary language of instruction at this institution" in this "Previous Education" section, you will be required to upload English-language test scores.

English Language

You can use scores from the Duolingo English Test, the IELTS, or TOEFL assessment.

Employment

Enter your current or most recent place of employment.

Click "Continue" when ready.

Document Upload

You will now need to upload a few more documents, including:

Your Resume

Your Letter of Affiliation

Your Letter of Intent

Finalizing Your Application

Signing

You are now ready to electronically sign your application.

Type your full legal name in the text field.

Click "Continue" when you have signed.

Review

You are now ready to review your application.

Problems

The system will identify any issues* - for example, if you forgot to complete a field.

*You will see a brief description of the error and a link to the section of the application where you can fix it.

Save or Submit

When you are ready, you can submit your application OR save it to continue working on it later.

Application Checklist

After submitting your application, you will have access to an application checklist. This will confirm which materials you have submitted and which items are still outsanding.

Official Transcripts

Once you are accepted into the program, you will need to send* all official transcripts to Gettysburg College.

*You can come to this dashboard for instructions on how to send them electronically or via mail.

This dashboard will tell you if your official transcripts have been received.
