Project 1
Hi, my name is Brandon Farmer, I will tell you about the main developments taking place in Africa.
One of the 3 positive developments that I am going to talk about taking place in Sub Saharan are trees are beginning to improve in the sub-Saharan region, from locations in the Ethiopian region to the Malawi region. As to get started there can be lots of trees and rainforest in Africa, but there are things that can cause trees to disappear, the process called deforestation. Deforestation - the process of cutting down or clearing trees for different purposes, there can be different causes to deforestation like forest fires/wildfires, which Africa can also have a lot of those, and another cause can be agriculture, and infrastructure. But wildfires/forest fires that are in Africa can be good for the climate, it can split seeds, and also wipe away delegate lands. Africa can be a dry land with dessert, with deforestation that is the number one thing people are concerned about in Africa with the expansion of the Sahara Desert. The Sahara Desert - it is a dessert located in Africa and known as the largest/hottest dessert in the world, goes 3,00 miles east to west, and 1,200 miles north to south.
Now starting on how trees can be improving, one good amin reason is people creating a proposed 8,000-kilometer line of treed which is meant to hold back the Sahara from moving southward. This is a process known to be one of Africa's desertification projects known as the Great Green Wall - which is an initiative process to plant a wall of trees across Africa to combat desertification and to increase the number of live hoods for millions of people. There are lots of things we can also do to make the climate better like cleaning up after ourselves and picking up all our trash, with that saying the great green wall can be one of the things Africans our doing to try to fix our climate with planting trees that is one other thing we have to help support the environment.
Now with another positive development taking place in Sub Saharan Africa, one other positive development that is recently taking place in the Sub-Saharan African region is life expectancy, the life expectancy which is the meaning of how long a person can live up to has been increasing by ten years since 2000. One way why it is developing is by healthcare, healthcare is also another thing that is improving in Africa, health care in Africa can vary where it can be a place filled where disease spreads, how health care is improving is Africa throughout the years have been taking more care of health problems like building up emergency preparedness and response mechanisms, increasing health, and expanding access to essential health services. One other way because Africa is improving life expectancy is by sanitation which is the process of keeping places free from dirt and clean drinking water. Africans have ways they can be improving by sanitation by which more than 70 precent of the eastern and southern region does not have access to sanitation, but Africans have been improving by ways like increasing domestic and external financing for wash, and also having more safely secured sanitation services. Africa has been doing a better job with improving the needs for living where they have increased in percentage over the years by little bits of percentage, the average life expectancy in Africa is 56 years, and over the years it has increased by little percentage into the 60's for example in 2020 it was around 63 years.
The third thing I think is pretty interesting that is Improving in Sub Saharan Africa Is drinking water. Africa can be a one of the places that comes to mind with how some people are with water, Africa can be a place where people have to go places to get water and where it does not have a place for water Someplaces. There are many parts to Africa that face water scarcity - which means the demand for water exceeds the available supply, it is something that affects a large amount/percentage of people in Africa, where the water they drink is dirty which has a meaning they haft to get the water from lakes, rivers, ponds. Water can affect people in Africa also because Africa tends to be home to many diseases and where lots of harvest have failed.
The one main good reason how Drinking water/clean water is improving in Sub-Saharan Africa is water resources are becoming more available and what that means is by new laws have been created for the past few decades, and more utilities have been adapted. Another fact is that people in Africa are also getting more piped water to homes and buildings, it is improving where around 60% of the African population is having access to pipeline water which is one safe way to have drinking water.
