About

The Curry Road and Guilderland Avenue corridors are undergoing redevelopment but currently lack a comprehensive approach towards multi-modal safety improvements. The purpose of this study is to create a plan for a more balanced transportation system along these corridors that includes safe access for users of all ages, abilities, and modes - including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, and motor vehicle drivers.

Vision Statement

Curry Road and Guilderland Avenue will become more balanced, cohesive corridors that include safe transportation access for users of all ages, abilities, and modes, prioritizing safe routes to school and mixed-use nodes in key locations.

Objectives

The study's objectives are as follows:

  1. Multimodal Safety: Evaluate safe mobility options to and through the corridors for users of all transportation modes and evaluate safety and operational improvements to intersections.
  2. Cohesive Development: Ensure that ongoing and future development occurs cohesively and supports well-connected and balanced transportation corridors which include safe access for users of all ages, abilities, and modes - including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, and motor vehicle drivers.
  3. Modal Choice: Create well-connected corridors that provide opportunities to travel safely, easily, and effectively using alternate modes of transportation.
  4. Accessibility and Connectivity: Address Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG) compliance for pedestrian facilities and determine connectivity improvements for bicyclists.
  5. Transit Improvements: Increase efficiency of public transit service, determine where and how transit access and comfort at stops could be improved, and link transit users to active transportation.

Land Acknowledgment

It is with gratitude and humility that we acknowledge that we are learning, speaking and gathering on the ancestral homelands of the Mohican people, who are the indigenous peoples of this land. Despite tremendous hardship in being forced from here, today their community resides in Wisconsin and is known as the Stockbridge-Munsee Community. We pay honor and respect to their ancestors past and present as we commit to building a more inclusive and equitable space for all.
