In order to move such an amount of goods, in 1957 Ferruzzi hires a fleet of 20.000-tons ships to accelerate the grain transport.
In that period, Ravenna’s harbour is still too small, with a not deep enough seabed: hence the idea to convert an old barge, the “Candiano” in a ferry, in order to transport the load of the bigger ships along the canal.
This ingenious arrangement will only stop in 1966, when the harbour structures will be improved, thus allowing the landing of ships with a greater tonnage.Per movimentare una tale mole di merce nel 1957 noleggia una flotta di grandi navi da 20.000 tonnellate per velocizzare il trasporto di granaglie.
