FLEAP u21 Hispanic Studies Gijón, Spain

Enjoy your next summer in Spain visiting Madrid, Córdoba, Seville, Mérida, Toledo, Segovia, Medina del Campo, León, Oviedo, Bilbao, Colombres and Gijón, while you study the culture and civilization of a millenary country. This is a hands-on experience: you will touch a Roman aqueduct, roam around a medieval city and understand the light of a cathedral from looking through its windows. You will sit in the same theater that Roman citizens built in 15 B.C. and, on the next week, you will be staring at the Guernica, Picasso's masterpiece about Nazi bombings in Spain in 1937.

This program is designed for speakers of Spanish who might benefit from a deeper understanding of the Spanish culture, but also for those interested in the field of Digital Humanities. The students work on a collaborative digital production about their experience.

Why Spain?

A class in Spanish culture and civilization would be better served if taught in Spain. This program is conceived with the idea of acquiring not only academic knowledge about Spain, but also to understand the culture by means of immersion. The local site visits aim to cover the different moments in history and diverse cultures that have contributed to the definition of Contemporary Spain, as we understand it today.

Students will visit several historical and cultural sites around Spain and experience daily life in Gijón.
