Spatial Research Question

Orange County is the third largest county in Southern California. With a population of over 3 million residents, the socioeconomic status of the population is diverse. About 9.5% of the population in Orange County lives in poverty compared to the 11.8% national poverty rate. While this poverty rate is below the federal rate, there is still a necessity for affordable housing in Orange County.
While the amount of deed restricted units may seem like a large number of affordable housing units, the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) requires the County of Orange to zone for 183,861 affordable housing units during the 6th cycle which spans until 2029. Each city within the county has its own zoning requirement. Some cities, such as Santa Ana are thriving, touting their progress in surpassing the state's exception. Other cities, such as Huntington Beach, are trying to fight against the state's push for more affordable housing.
To create a map that reflects the demographics of each census tract in Orange County, I added the ACS Median Household Income Variables layer and the ACS Race and Hispanic Origin Variable layer onto a map. I also added the USA Census tracts and filter all three layers to only display the information for Orange County. To map the deed restricted affordable housing units, I converted the affordable housing list into a CSV file. Once converted, I was able to geocode it onto a map. Then using the analysis function, I was able to identify clusters and create a heat map that displayed these clusters.
