March 13, 2020- Gov. Jim Justice closed all schools. Schools remained closed for the 2019-2020 school year.

March 16, 2020- Gov. Justice declares a State of Emergency in WV.

March 17, 2020- WV reports first positive case of COVID-19.

March 17-23, 2020- Over the course of a week, all non-essential businesses were closed and a "Stay at Home Order" was issued.

March 29, 2020- first COVID-19 death is reported.

April 27, 2020- Gov. Justice unveils “West Virginia Strong – The Comeback” – his multi-phased, comprehensive plan to reopen various aspects of the state and its economy, putting West Virginia on the road to recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

May 4, 2020- Gov. Justice announces that his "Safer At Home" order has officially taken effect, replacing the original "Stay At Home" order issued in April.

July 2020- All businesses were able to reopen with new guidelines and capacity restrictions. Fairs, festivals, and concerts were prohibited after a spike in cases.

July 15, 2020- Gov. Justice makes applications available for West Virginia CARES Act Small Business Grant Program.

July 24, 2020- Gov. Justice issues Executive Order permitting colleges and universities to reopen. He later pledges $2.5 million to ensure all public and private college and university students and staff are tested for COVID-19 upon return to campus.

July 7, 2020 through August 18, 2020 Gov. Justice awards over $3 million to help fairs and festivals after being shut down due to COVID-19.

July 31, 2020- Gov. Justice issues Executive Order concerning extended benefits during the pandemic.

August 3, 2020- Gov. Justice announces Medical Access Road Projects in all 55 counties to improve access to medical facilities.

August 2020- Gov. Justice announces plan for reopening West Virginia schools and plan to get broadband access for virtual or remote learning. He unveils an interactive map of 1,000+ Kids Connect WiFi locations.

August 2020- Gov. Justice commits to President Trump’s plan to extend unemployment benefits for West Virginians through the end of 2020 and announces that FEMA has approved the state’s application for a grant to provide a portion of unemployment benefits.

August 19, 2020- Gov. Justice adds self-employed, sole proprietors to those eligible to receive small business grants and announces funding being sent to volunteer fire departments.

September 4, 2020- Gov. Justice establishes $50 million fund to ensure safety in schools and awards grant to all WV Veterans organizations.

September 4, 2020- Gov. Justice signs executive order establishing the requirement that private and public Pre-K-12 schools follow the DHHR County Alert System map as it relates to any limitations or prohibitions on occupancy of such educational institutions for in-person instruction and/or athletic and extracurricular activities.

September 16, 2020- Gov. Justice commits $6 million to support childcare providers and families.

October 5, 2020- Gov. Justice signs Executive Order 74-20, allowing outdoor live music performances and certain indoor music performances to resume.

October 10, 2020- Gov. Justice provides funding to replenish the SNAP Stretch Program.

October 14, 2020- Gov. Justice awards $1 million to West Virginia food banks to support need amidst COVID-19 pandemic.

October 21, 2020- Gov. Justice announces that the $25 million of CARES Act relief funds allocated to assist qualifying West Virginians pay their utility bills are now ready to be distributed.

November 9, 2020- Gov. Justice announces $43 million to help thousands of businesses with cost of providing healthcare.

November 2020- With COVID-19 infection number growing, Gov. Justice issues Executive Order broadening statewide indoor face covering requirement, postponing the start date for all youth winter sports teams and leagues, and extending Thanksgiving Break for WV public and private schools. He also announces cancellation of all band festivals scheduled for Spring 2021 and all concert band festivals for the rest of the year.

December 14, 2020- Gov. Justice announces arrival of COVID-19 vaccine in West Virginia.

December 23, 2020- Gov. Justice announces commitment to continue to fund the Child Care and Development Block Grant, which subsidizes the state’s child care program via the CARES Act.

January 11, 2021- Gov. Justice announces that he issued an executive order establishing that all West Virginia public and private elementary and middle schools may reopen to in-person learning five days each week beginning Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021.

January 13, 2021- Gov. Justice introduces financial aid program for West Virginia landlords and renters called the Mountaineer Rental Assistance Program and announced that the State’s program to provide CARES Act dollars to cities and counties across West Virginia has now concluded, as all available funds have been exhausted, with a grand total of over $264 million being distributed through the program.

January 29, 2021- Gov. Justice announces that West Virginia has become the first state in the nation to complete vaccinations at all nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

March 5, 2021- Gov. Justice increased the capacity limit for restaurants and bars, small businesses, retail stores, grocery stores, gyms, fitness centers, and museums to 100% of their capacity.

March 22, 2021- Vaccines were available to all persons 16 and up.

May 7, 2021- Gov. Justice announced that the face covering requirement would end on West Virginia Day.

May 17, 2021 - Gov. Justice: West Virginia receives $677 million in federal stimulus dollars through American Rescue Plan.

May 20, 2021 - Gov. Justice announces all vaccinated West Virginians ages 16-35 can now register to receive $100 savings bond or $100 gift card.

May 20, 2021 - Gov. Justice announced that West Virginia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has decreased once again, dropping one-tenth of a percentage point to 5.8% in April 2021.

May 27, 2021 - Gov. Justice announces big cash, trucks, and scholarships among top prizes in upcoming vaccination incentive lottery.

June 1, 2021 - Gov. Justice announced that as of June 1 a total of 75% of West Virginians 50 and older have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, hitting the goal a full 19 days ahead of schedule.

June 20, 2021 - Gov. Justice signs Executive Order 20-21, officially lifting West Virginia’s Statewide Indoor Face Covering Requirement.

July 29, 2021 - Gov. Justice launches Booster Battlefield Assessment: first statewide program in U.S. to measure antibody levels among vaccinated.

August 9, 2021 - Gov. Justice: “Do it for Babydog” Vaccination Sweepstakes ends as a tremendous success.

August 16, 2021 - Gov. Justice announced that West Virginia has achieved yet another vaccination goal with 90% of individuals aged 65 and older who have received at least their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

August 20, 2021 - Gov. Justice announces second "Do it for Babydog" vaccination sweepstakes; registration to open Monday August 23rd.

September 6, 2021 - Gov. Justice offers a reminder that Tuesday, Sept. 7, marks the beginning of registration for the recently announced Healthy Grandfamilies vaccination incentive program.

September 15, 2021 - Gov. Justice signed Executive Order 25-21. This order directs the Tax Commissioner to compile a schedule of automobile values based upon the lowest values shown in a nationally accepted used car guide from the current year or the previous year, whichever is lower; the schedule will be provided to all tax assessors to determine the assessed value for all motor vehicles in an amount equal to sixty percent of said lowest values.
