  • In the movie, Clueless the female gaze is portrayed through the lens of having the modern woman in the 90's choosing to seduce and pick the men they want, not having the men pick who they want.
  • While the clothing choices are chic and stylish, they are not sexualizing women in any way. They can show the various styles from skater girls to girly girls, letting them wear whatever they choose to wear.
  • This scene below shows the amount of time and effort it takes to be a woman, it is less of a fun activity and more of a duty.

Male Gaze

This image shows that in order to please the male gaze, females often have to put on a facade to become the society expectations.

  • In the movie, Wolf of Wall Street the male gaze is heavily seen through all the characters within the movie. Jordan Belfort, the protagonist of the movie is the definition of the male gaze, being a wealthy white businessman with an attractive blonde wife.
  • He believes that the world revolves solely around him, having Naomi's main purpose being to seduce and pleasure her husband after a long day of work.
  • Once he starts to gain monetary value, he chooses Naomi's good looks over his former wife, having him have an affair.
  • Throughout the entirety of the movie, every woman is sexualized from taping money all love their near-naked bodies or snorting cocaine off their chests. 
  • This scene in the movie shows the woman being sexualized by having money taped onto her body. She is viewed as an object, being told what to do and not asked.

Whether it's social media or real world, the objectification of women have cause various problems in self-esteem and mental health.

  • Instagram famous Kim Kardashian has been accused of editing her Instagram pictures, creating an unrealistic idea of how women should and can look. This causes young women to have unrealistic goals and can cause self-esteem issues as well as body image problems.
