Located in the village of Shykhlar (Jabrayil district), the Round Mausoleum appears on the list of heritage sites of the Republic of Azerbaijan (inventory No. 4166) 1 as a 14 th century mausoleum. 1,2,3
Comparison of KH-9 Hexagon imagery dated July 1980 4 with satellite imagery captured in October 2020 5 shows that the overall structure of the mausoleum has remained unchanged in recent decades. A video post-dating the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War confirms this assessment of the monument. According to some claims, the upper part of the mausoleum was destroyed by Armenian forces in 1993. 6 But a photograph in a publication dated to 1992 2 depicts the mausoleum with a juniper tree rising out of the dome, demonstrating that this element was already damaged.
