Kandersteg Rock Avalanche
- Where: Bernese Alps, Switzerland
- When: About 3,200 years ago
- Type of Event: Avalanche, Landslide
- Possible in Ohio?: Yes and no, landslides and rockfalls are possible and have happened in Ohio, but not to the same size as the Kandersteg rock fall

What happened?
Sandstone detached and began to slide down the mountain side. The rock then hit a steep valley wall and crashed to the bottom of the valley. The dry rock began to mix with the river that flowed through the valley and continued to move down stream for 10km until it stopped. Human activity was very minimal in this area in the Holocene, so it is very unlikely the avalanche was caused by man.
