11:10am-11:50am

Josh Sisskind: Earth Intelligence in Your Daily Life. Remote sensing data is more than just pictures from space. Learn how decisions are made based on high-resolution satellite imagery, derived data layers, and machine learning and how these decisions impact you every day.  RECORDING of PRESENTATION

12:00pm-12:45pm

Jonathan Schroeder: IPUMS NHGIS: Geographic U.S. Census Data from 1790 through 2020. The IPUMS National Historical Geographic Information System (NHGIS) provides free online access to summary tables and GIS mapping files for U.S. censuses and surveys going back to 1790. In addition to historical county and state data, NHGIS provides more recent data for all levels of census geography down to tracts and blocks. NHGIS also includes time series tables and geographic crosswalks to aid users in comparing data across time. This talk will provide an overview of NHGIS resources, with an emphasis on new resources that facilitate working with 2020 data.  RECORDING of PRESENTATION

1:00pm-1:45pm

Jeffrey Hahn: Using Social Explorer. Learn how to use Social Explorer to visualize and interact with data, create maps, charts, reports and downloads that help you reach your goals. Easily add your own data for further impact.  RECORDING of PRESENTATION

2:00pm-2:45pm

Wayne Howard: Setting up a PostGIS Server. PostGIS is an open-source project, and its source code is released under the GNU General Public License (GPL). This freely available PostGIS 'spatially enables' the PostgreSQL server, allowing it to be used as a back-end spatial database for geographic information systems (GIS) and web-mapping applications in the same manner as Microsoft's SQL Server Spatial and Oracle's Spatial database extension (http://www.refractions.net/products/postgis/). Wayne will demonstrate how to set up your own PostGIS server.  RECORDING of PRESENTATION

3:00pm-3:45pm

Brett Carlock: Using OpenDroneMap. Brett Carlock (of UAV4Geo) will discuss the OpenDroneMap ecosystem and Community, sUAS-based Photogrammetry workflows and best practices, demo functionality and features of WebODM, and reveal exciting new functionality and a look into the future of the OpenDroneMap ecosystem.  RECORDING of PRESENTATION

4:00pm-4:45pm

A Panel Discussion: What are we teaching in Introductory GIS courses? Invited panelists will discuss the systems and software they use to teach introductory courses and explore the 'why' of their choices.  RECORDING of PRESENTATION
