Northern Michigan's 2021 December Climatology
Warm and wet December for northern Michigan.
- All sites were recorded above normal average temperatures for the month of December. This can be attributed to quite a few systems trekking to the west and north of northern Michigan and advecting warmer temperatures on southerly to southwesterly winds into the area.
- Sault Sainte Marie, Alpena, and Gaylord all ranked within the top ten for the warmest December on record for their locations.
- Although all sites recorded above normal precipitation, with the exception to Gaylord, another thing to note with a lot of the systems passing to our west and north would be Sault Sainte Marie recording their 6th wettest December on record. Deeper moisture associated with these systems reached our northernmost forecast area...hence the higher totals in Sault Sainte Marie (nearly 2 inches more than any of the other climate sites) .
