Official Community Plan Review

Thank-you for participating in phase one of the OCP Review! The engagement for this phase is now complete. There will be more opportunities to provide your feedback this spring. Stay tuned for more information!
Let's shape tomorrow, together!
The District of Summerland is updating its Official Community Plan (OCP) to shape the future of our community. This long-term plan will serve as a roadmap, guiding Summerland's growth and development for years to come.
Over the next year, we will need your help to create an Official Community Plan that reflects who we are today and where we want to be tomorrow.
What is an Official Community Plan?
An Official Community Plan is a long-term planning document that guides the long-term growth and development of our community. It outlines our collective vision, priorities, and strategies to guide the District's decision-making, policies and investments in areas such as:
- Agriculture
- Art, Culture and Heritage
- Economic Development
- Environment and Climate
- Housing
- Infrastructure
- Land use
- Parks, Trails and Recreation
- Social Supports and Services
- Transportation
Why update the OCP now?
Summerland's existing OCP was last updated in 2015. Our community has grown and evolved since then, bringing new needs and priorities. Updating the OCP allows us to:
- Address emerging trends
- Reflect the voices of all residents, ensuring the plan represents our collective goals
- Align with the District's current policies and initiatives
- Satisfy recent provincial legislative requirements, including integrating the District's Housing Needs Report into the OCP (we have a legislated deadline of December 2025 to complete)

Project Phases
The OCP will be developed over the next 12 months and include opportunities for community members, stakeholders and Indigenous Nations to provide input and share feedback on the development.
- Phase 1: Community Visioning | February 2025
- Phase 2: Reviewing the Urban Growth Boundary | April 2025
- Phase 3: Reviewing the Draft OCP | October 2025
- Phase 4: Finalizing and Adopting the OCP | December 2025

Engagement Opportunities
Phase One
Thank-you for participating in phase one of the OCP Review! The engagement for this phase is now complete. There will be more opportunities to provide your feedback this spring. Stay tuned for more information!
In February 2025, the District undertook the first phase of engagement, which included an Open House, Community Visioning Survey and World Café Workshop for community organizations. These opportunities sought input from the community on their values, priorities and vision for the future of Summerland. The feedback gathered during this phase will be used to inform the development of the draft OCP.
A What We Learned Report summarizing the Phase One engagement findings will be made available on this webpage soon.
Phase Two
Opportunities for the community to review and provide input on the Urban Growth Boundary will be happening in spring 2025. Stay tuned for updates!
