The New Zealand Tectonic Setting

New Zealand's tectonic plate setting has the plate boundaries go from the Kemadec Trench up North of New Zealand to the Macquarie Ridge down South of New Zealand. It cuts through the South Island around Kaikōura and Blenheim.

You can see where the tectonic plate boundary is in New Zealand. The movement of the plates. The Pacific Plate moves towards and goes under the Indo-Aus Plate. The Indo-Aus Plate moves towards and goes under the Pacific Plate. In the Alpine Fault (the long straight part of the boundary that goes along the Southern Alps) the Indo-Aus Plate moves up North while the Pacific Plate goes along next to it going down South.
