Racial Equity and Inclusion
The city recognizes the legacy of discrimination in real estate, lending and renting, exclusionary zoning practices, development regulations, and processes that have a disparate and disproportionate impact on limited wealth households and persons of color. The impacts of these past programs/policies are still felt by individuals and communities. The City is actively seeking to address equity issues through housing programs and policies, a citywide Equity Audit, Active Transportation Plan, Sustainability Committee, and more.

Helpful tips for public testimony
- Meeting agendas include instructions on how to engage in city meetings. Agendas include an email address for written comments regarding agenda items, the link/instructions on how to stream the meeting, and how to register to submit a public comment verbally. Please note that the registration to make a public comment closes 30 minutes before the meeting.
- Most committees have a 2, 3 or 5 minute limit. Some committee chairs will cut you off abruptly, others will let you finish your thought. Sometimes a committee member will move to allow you more time.
- If emailing written comments, be succinct and be sure to include the most important things first to ensure they are heard.
- Be direct about what you want them to do. “Please vote in support or opposition” or “please amend this to _____."
- Stories are always memorable.
- Be prepared not to be able to ask questions or participate in debate.
