Monroe County, TN

Monroe County, TN is located in southeast Tennessee, just between Chattanooga and Knoxville. There are many fun activities in Monroe County like relaxing on the Tellico Lake, hiking in the Cherokee National Forest in Tellico Plains, visiting The Lost Sea, sightseeing on the Cherohala Skyway National Scenic Byway, and discovering history in all the small towns.

• Construction of the dam began in 1967 and was completed in 1979
• The dam spans the Little Tennessee River at 3,238 feet across and 129 feet high
• The Tellico Dam is not powered by generators and produces no electricity, however, water flows through a short canal into Fort Loudoun Reservoir helping drive the four generating units at Fort Loudon Dam
• Tellico Dam’s flood-storage capacity is 120,000 acre-feet
• Tellico Reservoir has 15,560 acres of surface water and 357 miles of shoreline

Located in the small town of Sweetwater, The Lost Sea is known as America's largest underground lake. Guided tours are available through the caverns and of the underground lake.

The Cherohala Skyway, located in Tellico Plains, TN, is a 43-mile national scenic byway from Tellico Plains, Tennessee, to Robbinsville, NC.

Monroe County, TN has so many beautiful locations and a ton of interesting history. Growing up near this area has certainly been a fun adventure.
