Edward So

GIS Manager

I currently work as a GIS Manager at Southern Company Gas, where my team supports the safe delivery of natural gas to 4.2 million customers in Georgia, Illinois, Tennessee, and Virginia. We also support the safe operation of several storage facilities across the country. My group supports the regulatory compliance of our transmission pipelines by performing analysis and reporting, as required by federal and state laws.

My Achievements:

  • I presented at several major conferences including Esri, AGA (American Gas Association) and NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers).
  • I am an officer in our Asian-American/Pacific Islander employee resource group (ERG) called Soar.
  • Finally, I am pursuing my Master of Business Administration at The University of Georgia.

Work Experience:

My Experience at KSU:

I received the GIS Certificate from Kennesaw State University in 2011. While pursuing the certificate, I served as a Teaching Assistant for the program. I attribute this to a lot of my early success as I had an opportunity to teach concepts, which helped me better understand the concepts. It also helped me network and form rewarding connections with my professors.

Hobbies:

Anything active: hiking, backpacking, basketball, weightlifting and powerlifting. I also enjoy reading. I’ve recently taken up drawing as a new hobby during the pandemic as well as playing the piano again.
