Sidewalks

ADA-accessible concrete sidewalks will be constructed on both sides of Bull Creek Road.
In locations where there is not enough space in the right-of-way to fit a sidewalk behind existing utility poles or near heritage trees, the curb may be extended into the street to construct the sidewalk. In these spot locations, on-street parking will be removed.

Pedestrian crossings

Pedestrian crossing islands are currently being evaluated to support bus stop access at select locations. Pedestrian crossing islands provide shorter, safer crossings, improve driver yielding and help to manage motor vehicle speed. Some pedestrian crossings will require the removal of on-street parking spaces approaching the crossing.

Protected bicycle lanes

A two-way protected bikeway is proposed along the east side of Bull Creek Road in this section to offer a continuous and connected route to the Shoal Creek Trail and other existing and emerging bicycle routes. The proposed two-way protected bikeway will require the removal of on-street parking on the east curb of Bull Creek Road.

Transit access

The existing bus stops will be consolidated into one stop pair near the Bull Creek Road and West 49th Street intersection where a new northbound bus stop is proposed. The planned bus stop will be designed to integrate with the two-way protected bikeway to remove conflicts between people on bicycles and people getting on and off buses.

On-street parking

On-street parking restrictions would be necessary on the east curb to fit the two-way protected bikeway and pedestrian crossings within the available street space. On-street parking would largely remain on the west curb, except at pedestrian crossings and where large trees or utility poles require street space to maintain a continuous sidewalk.
A parking analysis was completed at various times of the day and days of the week along this segment of Bull Creek Road. Based on this analysis, on-street parking, while consistent, can be accommodated using available space on the west curb or other intersecting side streets. The graphic below shows the parking utilization patterns observed on the street.
