Historic District Walking Tour

Welcome to Charleston’s 6th and 7th Street Historic District, established under local ordinance in 2008.

Developed primarily between 1890 and 1940, the residential District encompasses classic examples of Queen Anne, various early 20th century revivals, Craftsman, and the ubiquitous Midwestern Four Square. But, as important thoroughfares to and from the historic Courthouse Square, and then between the Square and the University which opened in 1899, the streets also contain homes that pre- and post-date that intensive development phase. Look for the Gothic Revival, Italianate, and mid-20th century Ranch styles as well.
