Take a Tour
Compare Potrero Yard to Islais Creek Motor Coach Yard
Islais Creek Bus Yard, located between the Dogpatch and Bayview neighborhoods, opened in 2018 and demonstrates what a new Potrero Yard could look like.
Engaging with the Community
Over the past three years, the project team conducted extensive stakeholder outreach that includes working with the Potrero Yard Neighborhood Working Group, which consists of nine community members and two Muni operators. Information on public tours of the yard can be found here .
Community feedback has resulted in support for:
- Up to 575 rental housing units
- Partnering with the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development to maximize affordable units
- Designating at least 50% of the total units as affordable with potential for a higher percentage of affordable units, even up to 100% affordable
- Challenging developers to increase the number of affordable units by identifying outside funding
Joint Development and Housing Opportunity
The SFMTA's primary goal is to create a modern bus facility. At the same time, we are offering the facility site as a resource to address the critical housing issue in San Francisco. We are seeking a development partner to design, build, finance, and maintain the common portions of the facility and the housing component that will be above the bus yard itself. This significant investment requires creative budget planning to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of a high-quality facility.
The Potrero Yard project development process demonstrates the SFMTA's commitment to:
- A responsible public investment
- Inclusive and transparent community participation
- A joint development that is financially feasible
