Forest patch inventory map
A 0.5 - 1000 ha remote sensing-based inventory of West African forest patches
This inventory maps West African forests patches outside protected areas with a tree cover ≥ 30 %, a tree height of ≥ 5 m, and an area ≥ 0.5 and ≤ 1000 ha (0.005 - 10 km 2 ). Appended to each patch are a range of socio-ecological data, including descriptive and change metrics, such as estimates of fragment size, biophysical properties, and relation to social-ecological drivers. When clicking on an individual patch, these metrics can be consulted visualized, Zoom to and click on individual forest patch polygons to visualize indicator data on, for example:
- Mean canopy height (m) and cover (%) ( Potapov et al. 2021 ; Hansen et al. 2023 )
- Distance to protected areas, roads and settlements ( Wingate et al. 2022)
- Annual forest loss area (2000-2022) ( Hansen et al. 2023 )
- ESA CCI Biomass (2010 & 2018) ( Santoro et al. 2023 )
- MODIS UMD Land cover (2001 & 2021)
- Rainfall climatologies (2021) ( Funk et al. 2015 )
- Landsat max. growing season NDVI Theil-Sen trend (2000-2021) ( Wingate et al. 2022 )
- Global Human Modification Index ( Kennedy et al. 2019 )
- WorldPop Population density 100x100 m ( Sorichetta et al. 2015 )
