Finger Lakes Institute Hydrilla Survey

An overview of the Finger Lakes Institute's survey efforts to detect Hydrilla infestations

Hydrilla in the Finger Lakes

  • Although Hydrilla had been documented in New York since 2008, it wasn't observed in the Finger Lakes until 2011.
  • It was discovered by a volunteer on Discover Cayuga Lake (formerly the Cayuga Lake Floating Classroom) in Linderman Creek.
  • After thorough plant surveys, Hydrilla was found throughout the rest of the Cayuga inlet (highlighted in red).
