The Palawan archipelago, situated in the southwestern Philippines, is a vibrant ecological haven recognised as a UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve and lauded as the country's last ecological frontier due to its rich marine biodiversity.

The 18 MPAs of the Local Government of Araceli cover approximately 250,000 ha of coral reef ecosystems and support more than 2,000 fisher households. They are the first MPAs under our co-management in Northeast Palawan.

Roxas MPAs

Roxas is home to 14 Marine Protected Areas, covering a fully protected core zone of 670 hectares. These MPAs are crucial for the protection of diverse marine life, including endangered and rare species like dugongs, marine turtles, and various sharks. Additionally, these areas are sanctuaries for the rare seagrass species Thalassia ciliatum and frequented by dolphins, which adds to the ecological richness of the region.

El Nido's MPAs are crucial habitats for a variety of endangered and rare species, including marine turtles and manta rays. These conservation zones, such as the Sibaltan and Mabini community-managed areas, collectively cover significant marine and mangrove environments essential for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem stability.
