The Discover Maps Project
An evolution of this initiative is the new EGCP Discover Maps project. Through our Discover maps project, we are creating a new and unique series of four (4) maps covering the Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire coast.

A Wealth of Cultural & Historical Information
Graphics and Design
The map design and production is being handled by the team at Foyer Graphics - a Social Enterprise based in Aberdeen with over 20 years' experience, along with cover illustrations provided by local artist Ian Thomson. Foyer Graphics are working in partnership with the team at EGCP, managing the design styling, layout and illustration within the map. Creative Director Julie Wemyss said "It's a great pleasure to be involved with this project, and in an age of online maps, there is still an appetite for well designed printed materials to hold in your hands and enjoy reading. We are a social Enterprise with ethical values at the heart of what we do - profits support Aberdeen Foyer's (charity) work with homeless young people and enabling people of all ages to take the next steps towards learning and employment."

Dr. Fiona-Jane Brown, native of Peterhead, director of Hidden Aberdeen Tours, local author and historian will be acting as the principal researcher for this project. Having done extensive research into the local culture for various previous projects (Formartine Oral History Project (2006-08) North East Cultural Heritage and Tourism Project (2019-20)) and written her doctoral thesis on the fisher communities of Grampian, she is well-equipped to 'dig for hidden gems and forgotten memories' to populate these new maps.

Video
AVC Immedia is delighted to be supporting EGCP with the development of the video content for the discover maps. We're truly blessed having such heritage, history and natural beauty throughout our coastal towns and villages and the number of stories and memories that will be unearthed as part of our work with the wider EGCP team is something we're relishing the chance to learn of and be a part of helping educate people to make many more memories of their own now and in the future.
Angus Turner - Video and Animation Manager - Angus will lead the video and animation team from AVC Immedia in the development and creation of the visual productions that will be used to entertain, engage and educate audiences on the history, heritage and natural beauty of Grampian's coastal towns and villages. Having grown up and lived in Aberdeenshire most of his life, the region holds a special place in Angus' heart and he's relishing working on the project.

These maps will contain a wealth of interesting information about the coast; including the people, history, environment and activities that make the North East of Scotland special.

Contribute to the Discover Maps Project
We are always looking to include photographs, memories and short stories of residents and visitors who have spent time in the area.
• Do you have memories of a favourite place?
• Have you seen anything special, interesting or just the mundane, but is an important memory to you?
• Have you worked on or around the coast or even just remember some favourite holidays or pastimes?
• Do you know of any tall stories that might be true or just legends that continue to grow?
If so, we would love to capture some of your thoughts for posterity on our maps.
