This map has five different elements that make up layers. The first layer is the hurricane storm surge layer, which shows impact areas in Boston for category 1, 2, 3, and 4 hurricanes; this layer is obtained from MassGIS. The next layer is the Boston roads layer, which shows the road network in Boston, also obtained from MassGIS. The public transportation layer, which shows the main lines of rapid public transit in Boston, is also from MassGIS. There are also two layers related to demographics, one for income and one for race, based on Boston census tract data obtained from United States Census Bureau; both of these layers were manually created by loading in the data and selecting how it was displayed.

This map was created by Carmen Hansen, a student in Professor Auroop Ganguly's Climate Science, Engineering Adaptation, and Policy course in fall of 2021 at Northeastern University.
