Southeast Texas Tornadoes - January 24, 2023

On January 24, 2023, multiple tornadoes touched down in Southeast Texas with one of them prompting our office's first Tornado Emergency.

Needville/Thompsons Tornado Damage

Photos taken during the storm survey for the Needville/Thompsons tornado. Most notable is a blown over metal security shed.


Pearland Tornado Damage

Photos taken during the storm survey for the southwest Pearland tornado. The most common sight was downed fences.


Southeast Harris County Tornado Damage

Southbelt/Ellington

Photos taken in the Southbelt/Ellington area during the storm survey for the Southeast Harris County tornado. There was significant loss of roofing from an apartment complex.

Pasadena

Photos taken in Pasadena during the storm survey for the Southeast Harris County tornado. Numerous homes and buildings were severely damaged.

Deer Park

Photos taken in Deer Park during the storm survey for the Southeast Harris County tornado. Numerous structures were severely damaged from the strong tornado including homes, a church, vehicles, and shipment containers.

Collapsed electrical transmission lines spotted from an aerial survey northeast of Deer Park were the reasoning behind this tornado being rated an EF-3.

Baytown

Photos taken in Baytown during the storm survey for the Southeast Harris County tornado. Multiple homes were severely damaged including the complete destruction of a mobile home.


Cove Tornado Damage

Photos taken during the storm survey for the Cove tornado. The second image was captured by drone footage.


Nome Tornado Damage

Photos taken during the storm survey for the Nome tornado. This strong tornado removed large portions of the roof from a home and completely destroyed a barn.
