The Ontario Government announced an increase to the minimum wage that will be introduced on January 1st, 2022.
On January 1st 2022 the minimum wage will go from $14.30 and hour to $15.00 an hour, a wage increase of about 4.5%.
How will this wage increase impact people working at the minimum wage already? Not much, unfortunately.
THE 2021 LIVING WAGE RATES
As you can see the Northern communities of Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, and Sudbury will move the closest to have residence living closest to a livable wage, a minimal life.
THE 2021 LIVING WAGE RATES
In this map you can see that residence in Southern Ontario's livable wage is still far above that which will be achieved with the proposed minimum wage increase to $15.00 per hour.
THE 2021 LIVING WAGE RATES
So how can any Government be proud of maintaining the working poor class? When might a REAL pay increase that moves people in Ontario above the poverty line and into a livable wage happen?
