You're heading out on a virtual field trip.

While you are exploring the different stops on your journey, write down your answers to the following questions:

  1. On what date were the first shots of the Civil War fired?
  2. Where did Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrender?

Now that you are familiar with the Civil War after reviewing the Field Trip, look at this map to see the events and troop movements that led up to one of the most important battles in the Civil War: The Battle of Gettysburg.  Click here to open the map in another window. 

After looking at the map, answer the following questions:

  1. According to the map, what dates did the Battle of Gettysburg occur? 
  2. Is Gettysburg in a Union state or a Confederate state? 

A few months after the Battle of Gettysburg, President Abraham Lincoln gave his famous Gettysburg Address at a ceremony honoring those who lost their lives at the battle. Read  this article  to learn more about Lincoln’s speech.

After reading the article, answer the following questions:

  1. According to the article, about how long did Lincoln’s speech last? 
  2. Review the map that accompanies the article. What is the name of the location that the Site of the Gettysburg Address is within?
