Introduction

Knebworth High Street was identified as an area with narrow footways and potential queueing outside shops leading to risks for social distancing. In response, emergency measures were implemented in early Summer 2020. On street parking restrictions were implemented to create more space for pedestrians moving and queuing in this area.

Following public feedback, this scheme was reduced in scale to support queuing systems on the narrow footways outside essential retailers.

The changes made in Knebworth were considered to provide largely a benefit to social distancing only. As such the measures will be removed in line with the national route-map for lockdown easing and following advice from Public Health. Current expectations are that the measures will be removed no sooner than 17 May 2021 and before 21 June 2021.

Your feedback will help us understand if the scheme was successful in enabling social distancing and what you liked and disliked about the changes made.
