Neighborhoods and Rising Sea Levels
"More heat in the atmosphere and warmer ocean surface temperatures can lead to increased wind speeds in tropical storms." (USGS).
It’s no surprise that in the past decades, the intensity of many natural disasters has been increasing due to climate change. Unfortunately, low-income communities have been hit the hardest due to companies wanting to buy up land from families to build luxury shopping centers and apartments. Companies also look at communities that are located at higher elevations to build their projects. These lower-income neighborhoods are victims of climate gentrification alongside disaster investors.
From this wider view of the Bay Area, most of the areas that have a higher median household income are situated near the coast while there's not as much lower income areas near the coast. (Green representing higher income while purple represents lower income). The reason why I chose the Bay Area as an example is that San Francisco is one of the cities that is experiencing the most amount of sea level rising in California.

This graph shows the increase of sea levels in San Francisco and La Jolla along side the decrease of sea levels in Crescent City.
With these affluent areas increasing in sea level, there's no doubt that companies will soon pay less attention in developing projects in these coastal cities and will soon shift to creating projects in areas where the elevation is higher and the property value is low at the moment.

Conservation Action Plan
- Address issues to the local government: By being active in the local government of your city/district you'll have the chance of having your opinions voiced.
- Recycle: It will give new life to plastic, cardboard, and metal. Plus it will keep the waterways clear.
- Conserve water: By researching water saving techniques it will save both water and money.
- Get energy/water saving appliances: By switching household appliances for ones that use less energy/water will reduce the amount of resource you'll have to use.
- Use public transit or carpooling: By doing this you'll save money on gas and have less of an environmental footprint.
- Eat less meat: "As an example, spring-calving cows will need close to 20 to 24 gallons of water per day for themselves and another 5 to 10 gallons for their calf in these high temperature environmental conditions."(University of Nebraska-Lincoln). This is not accounting to the water used for food.
- Purchase local food: Locally grown food tend to organic therefore it won't have as many chemicals then most of the foods grown in the US.
- Install solar panels: A great investment financially and environmentally.
- Check for leaks: A website with many methods to check for leaks is the California Water Service . By checking where leaks are located in your house, you'll be able to fix those areas and have less wasted water.
- Makes sure to pick up trash: It's best to prevent trash from ended up in waterways and areas where animals live.
